Aina Khan is A Senior Consultant in the Family & Matrimonial department at Russell Jones and Walker.
Aina was formerly the Head of Family Law at Woodroffes Solicitors. Prior to that she was the Senior Partner of Aina Khan Partnership Solicitors London, which she founded in 1994. Her firm was awarded the Investor in People and Lexcel awards, as well as being a ‘Category 1’ firm for the Legal Services Commission.
Aina has specialised in Family Law since qualifying as a solicitor in 1991. She is an accredited member of the Law Society’s Family Panel and Children Panel and a proficient advocate. She has extensive experience of:

In addition to her mainstream family law practice, Aina is the leading solicitor with a niche specialism in Islamic Family law, providing solutions which are compatible with English law. She is the country's top expert in how to handle the highly charged negotiations and issues arising from these challenging court cases. Her clients come from across the UK and abroad. She frequently works with courts, Sharia Councils and other official bodies on legal issues affecting Muslim and Asian communities, writes and gives lectures. Wherever possible, she aims to resolve issues via mediation and refers matters to the Muslim Arbitration Tribunal. She is pressing for the legalisation of Islamic marriages, which are not recognised under UK law.
Aina Khan frequently appears on TV, radio and the press here and abroad. Her recent appearances have been on the panel of Channel 4’s Chilcot Enquiry, BBC’s Newsnight, Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour and Unreliable Evidence, Sky News and BBC News. She writes articles and lectures in her specialist areas, recently speaking to the House of Commons, universities here and abroad, and barristers’ chambers, as well as training other lawyers. She speaks fluent Urdu and Hindi and conversational Punjabi.
She has played an active role in interfaith dialogue and community affairs all her working life and stood as a Parliamentary Candidate in 1997. She is Co-Chair of Alif-Aleph, a Muslim Jewish interfaith network.
Aina was shortlisted for the ‘European Muslim Women of Influence’ award in 2010.
