Professional Profile
Amanda is the National Head of Family Law and works from both our London and Manchester offices. Amanda formerly of Gorvins Solicitors, has been representing Police officers now for over 10 years and it was as a result of her concerns about the lack of expertise surrounding Police divorce cases that she decided to build a specialist team of Family Lawyers.
Amanda is recognised by Lawyers and members of the judiciary nationally as being the leading expert in Police divorce cases. She is also mentioned in the Legal 500 as a Family law expert.
Amanda is a regular contributor to a number of leading Police magazines and journals including Jane’s Police Review, Metline and The Job.
Amanda's Recent work includes:
- Representing a Chief Superintendant at a Final ancillary relief hearing where the Spouse sought to Challenge the value of the Police pension as calculated by Mouchel Pension Services. The spouse took the case to Appeal but was unsuccessful and a costs order was made in the officer’s favour.
- Successfully persuading a District Judge at a FDR hearing that the value of the Police pension CETV could not be compared like for like with other liquid capital assets. This lead to a pension saving of £150,000.
- Persuading a court within Children Act proceedings that an officers shift pattern should not debar him from obtaining a shared residence order with his ex-spouse.
Personal Profile
Amanda obtained her honours degree from Newcastle University and qualified as a solicitor in 1998. Having been through a divorce herself she is very much aware of the stresses and strains that can be caused by a marriage break-up.
