Professional Profile
Kirsty Morbey is an Assistant Solicitor in the Manchester Office of the Family Department.
Kirsty has extensive experience in all areas of Family Law, after having practised in the area since qualification in August 2000, advising a wide range of clients.
Kirsty is particularly experienced in resolving the financial aspects arising from the breakdown of a relationship or marriage and is an expert in advising on the particular issue of the division of a pension. Kirsty acts for the Police Federation of England and Wales and has been advising police officers in respect of all aspects of family law for over 5 years.
Kirsty is a trained Collaborative Lawyer and as such is committed to wherever possible, the resolution of family disputes in a non-confrontational manner. The increasing success of Collaborative Law, ensures that the parties to the dispute emerge with a negotiated agreement that is tailored to their own practical needs.
Unfortunately, there are still cases where Court proceedings do become necessary. Kirsty is also a highly experienced Court Advocate, representing clients to the highest level. She is a skilled negotiator and will always press to resolve a matter at the Court door if possible, but is then ready to fight the case in Court, should that become necessary.
Kirsty's recent work includes:
- Representing a police officer, who had substantial assets outside of the police force, to include a property company. Kirsty successfully challenged the contents of the Actuary’s report obtained and persuaded the Court to adopt a realistic attitude to the value of the property assets.
- Successfully negotiating a settlement on behalf of a Chief Inspector, that took a realistic view of his pension and also allowed both parties a fair share of the capital involved.
- Acting on behalf of a police sergeant and successfully persuading the Court to only take into account the period of the marriage when looking at the pension claims of the wife, where the officer had police service nearly double the length of the marriage.
